Happy Birthday, Mr. West! Let us have a toast to 34 years of Yeezy!
YEEZYFLUENCE: Kanye’s producing style is well known to implement a vast array of samples from a broad spectrum of musical styles. Although those out of tune of hip-hop criticize sampling as a form of “stealing music,” sampling often offers a refreshing rendition of sound from other talented artists. This can give music new life.
For example, many hip-hop listeners first discovered Daft Punk through Yeezy’s STRONGER.
YEEZYFLUENCE: Let’s take a moment to talk about how Kanye West influences each of us on an individual level. Besides helping run this blog with my fellow broYe, JC, I also run a photography blog called Junagraphy. Anyone who listens to Yeezy and goes through my work would be able to see the hints of Ye influences here and there. No doubt, the man’s aesthetic as a whole has had its influence on my art, my fashion, and even some of my personal philosophies. All I know is if I ever succeed in my own endeavors, I’d have to admit… YEEZY TAUGHT ME.
“People always say that you can’t please everybody. I think that’s a cop-out. Why not attempt it? ‘Cause think of all the people you will please if you try.”
“I do have an ego and rightfully so. I think people should have an ego. Think about it - I don’t offend people, I don’t put anyone down. Do I name names or bring people down? That’s not my thing. But I give myself big-ups. I feel good about the music I make.”
“I’m a star, how can I not shine?”
- Three of my favorite Kanye West quotes.
Who’s got their own Yeezyfluence stories?
Are people stupid? I completely understand not liking an artists music and what not, but for so many to vote that he’s ‘not influential’ is beyond me. I know he’s not the MOST influential but still, you can’t deny his talent or anything. People need to get over the whole Taylor Swift incident, really. He’s not the devil, despite popular belief. He’s a good person and he’s got an ass load of talent.
“Regardless of how influential he may or may not actually be, the thought of him getting into this fairly prestigious category makes me sick to my stomache—as did the horrific misogyny of his latest video, “Monster”. How can we allow ourselves to be influenced by someone who promotes a view of women as solely valuable for their use as sex toys—and equally valuable whether drugged, comatose or dead?
Maybe if people didn’t take everything so literally and up the ass we wouldn’t be having these problems. I’m a woman and when I watched the music video for Monster I didn’t think it was conveying those types of messages…sheesh. Nobody can do anything anymore without getting hounded about it.
Whether you like Kanye or not, you can NOT deny the fact that he has talent. So people should reblog this and spread the word to vote for Kanye. KANYE MADE A MISTAKE, like EVERYBODY does and he learned from it. You can’t shun him forever.
Everybody should vote!!!
BroYes need to stick together. Vote!
Nice rendition of Kanye’s photos for GQ from a while ago
I’m sure every broYe remembers this faithful day. By now, the drama should have past… But the legacy of the Kanye Shrug lives on.
I don’t think we’ve ever had a photo reply post, so let’s try something new… So broYes, put on your best ‘Ye face on and reply with your best #KanyeShrug!
Why? No reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I’ll try to post up the favorites.
And don’t forget to vote for Ye!
